written by K.C. Krishnadas, courtesy of EE Times BENGALURU, India — ARM Ltd. opened a second design center here Thursday (March 13) to accommodate more engineers, having grown from just 50 engineers in 2004 to 350. More are expected to be hired to support its global design activities. India's growing market for wireless handsets, industrial and automotive applications have boosted the domestic markter share for both ARM-powered processors and microcontrollers. The new center can accommodate more than 300 addditional design engineers. ARM's first Indian design center is its second largest outside the U.K. ARM has moved some of its physical IP design here after deciding to focus on a site-specific model for its physical IP portfolio. The Cambridge, U.K.-based company did not disclose its investment plans. According to Tudor Brown, ARM's chief operating officer, "Considering that it is a relatively small company that employs just 1,700 staff globally, the size of our Bengaluru facility and our plans for growing it are very significant." |
